David Russler-Germain, MD, PhD

David Russler-Germain, MD, PhD, medicine oncologist from Siteman Cancer Center discusses his path to medicine and the future of cancer care. Growing up in Maryland with two scientist parents, Dr. Russler-Germain was drawn to science early on. Personal experiences with family members facing cancer inspired his focus on oncology. He explains how understanding cancer biology leads yo better more personalized treatments, moving from basic microscopic diagnosis to today's precision medicine.

Research Interest

Dr. David Russler-Germain, MD, PhD is a physician-scientist with a focus on B-cell lymphomas. In the clinic, he treats patients with lymphoma and related blood cancers. He leads clinical trials exploring the use of novel immunotherapies for the treatment of indolent and aggressive lymphomas, as well as studies of new blood-based prognostic biomarkers. In the laboratory, he uses mouse models to study how follicular lymphoma originates and can transform into the aggressive disease diffuse large B cell lymphoma. He also conducts genomic profiling studies using patient tumor samples, and is exploring circulating tumor DNA sequencing as a method to risk-stratify patients and measure response to therapy.
