Strategic Plan
Siteman Cancer Center’s strategic plan unites Discovery and Community bringing together groundbreaking research and effective community outreach to improve patient care and eliminate cancer.
Join us in our mission to prevent cancer and transform the care of cancer patients through scientific discovery. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against cancer.

PATIENT CARE & OUTCOMES
Our goal is to eliminate and prevent cancer through world-class science. We are dedicated to providing the best patient care by combining cutting-edge research, new and innovative treatments, and compassionate patient-centered care focused on patients’ needs and desires.
BASIC RESEARCH
We are developing new and more effective cancer therapies by focusing on unlocking the mysteries that allow tumors to grow and resist treatment and how the body and the environment in which we live impact cancer development.
TRANSLATIONAL & CLINICAL RESEARCH
Our team strives to incorporate the latest scientific advances into innovative treatment trials and studies, ensuring that patients benefit from the newest and most effective cancer therapies available.
PREVENTION & CONTROL
We work hard to promote, develop, and put in place programs, policies, and changes in health care practice that lower the number of cancer cases, improve health outcomes and advocate for health across communities. Our prevention strategies are designed to promote healthy lifestyles to reduce cancer risk, to give people the information and skills to take steps to reduce risk, and to identify the steps people and health care providers can take to reduce cancer risk and improve health outcomes.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT
Learning from and working with our community partners, we promote access to prevention education and cancer screening tests across the cancer center’s outreach (catchment) area. We also work to better understand the needs of the community, and the barriers to health care access and health behaviors — which informs and fosters research within the cancer center.
TRAINING & EDUCATION
We invest in training, mentoring and supporting the next generations of cancer researchers and those in the cancer care workforce, including developing future leaders. We arrange training in cancer research as early as high school, extending to undergraduate college students, graduate and medical students, postdoctoral scholars and university faculty who are early in their careers.
