About Siteman Cancer Center

The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and WashU Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education, and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in the region to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation and “Exceptional” rating from the National Cancer Institute and membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Through the Siteman Cancer Network, Siteman Cancer Center works with regional health systems and hospitals to improve access to highly specialized cancer care and reduce the incidence of cancer through initiatives in cancer prevention, treatment and research.

Siteman treats adults at six locations, including the new Gary C. Werths Building for outpatient care and an inpatient hospital on the Washington University Medical Campus, and partners with St. Louis Children’s Hospital in the treatment of pediatric patients at Siteman Kids. All locations offer patient-focused, multidisciplinary care driven by scientific breakthroughs and powered by WashU Medicine physicians.

Siteman Cancer Center unites the clinical expertise of WashU Medicine with the strength of BJC HealthCare – both of which are nationally recognized, with U.S. News & World Report and Newsweek magazines consistently ranking both among the best in the country. Siteman Cancer Center offers the expertise of 700 WashU Medicine research scientists and physicians who provide care for 75,000+ people a year, including 12,000+ newly diagnosed patients. Specialists and sub-specialists are national leaders in all types of cancer, with the latest, most advanced diagnostic and treatment options.

Scientists and physicians affiliated with Siteman hold more than $185 million annually in basic and clinical oncology research grants. The results of basic laboratory research are rapidly incorporated into treatment advances, which is enhanced by patient access to more than 600 of WashU Medicine’s therapeutic clinical trials, including many collaborative efforts with other leading cancer centers throughout the country. In addition to treatment and research programs, Siteman pursues an active outreach program of cancer prevention and education that reaches tens of thousands of individuals annually throughout the St. Louis region with screening and early detection services.
