Volunteers at the Siteman Cancer Center make an important difference in the lives of people living with cancer and their loved ones. We have many opportunities available for people who want to share their care and compassion. 

You can choose how to help our patients. Patient navigators and volunteers in treatment areas interact directly with parents. Other roles are just as important but are behind the scenes. Those roles may entail administrative, event planning, and other opportunities.  

Most volunteer opportunities are available in various shifts during business hours Monday through Friday. A limited number of evening opportunities are available.  

How to Apply 

To volunteer at Siteman Cancer Center, you must: 

  • Fill out the application form completely. We will not process incomplete applications. 
  • Receive a current two-part tuberculosis (PPD) skin test or provide documentation from your healthcare provider if you have already completed it in the past 12 months. Volunteers can receive the test at Siteman at no charge. 
  • Pass a criminal background check. People with felony or misdemeanor convictions related to drugs, child abuse, assault, or violence cannot volunteer at Siteman Cancer Center. 

After we approve your application, our team will reach out to schedule an interview. The interview helps us figure out where you can help best.  

You will also be asked to submit a letter of reference. This can include a letter from an employer, friend, or business associate. They may not be related to you. 

After the interview, you are required to attend a new volunteer orientation. This takes place online.  

Finally, we will ask for your photo to create a volunteer identification badge.

To become a volunteer at Siteman, you must: 

  • Commit to one year of volunteering. We ask college students to commit to two semesters. 
  • Complete the application process. 
  • Attend new volunteer orientation. 

You must to attend a new volunteer orientation program after your interview to help you learn about your role as a volunteer. Topics covered in the orientation programs include: 

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines 
  • Safety 
  • Volunteer standards 
  • Best practices for working with patients  

The application process may take up to four weeks to complete before you can start volunteering.
