Siteman Cancer Center Mobile Cancer Screening Program
For over four decades, Siteman Cancer Center has brought the leading specialists of WashU Medicine and the clinical strength of BJC HealthCare into our community through mobile unit screenings.
Our mammography van was the first in the St. Louis region to bridge the healthcare gap found between hospitals and home. The Mobile Cancer Screening Program continues to expand with a full fleet of state-of-the-art vehicles to offer screenings for breast, colorectal, lung, and prostate cancer.
Siteman’s Mobile Cancer Screening Program links our care to our community for its wellbeing. We are dedicated to identifying cancer early through routine screenings, widening treatment options for patients, and increasing survivability no matter where they live.
Every one of our mobile units brings patients the level of care they need right where they need it. Each scan is interpreted and evaluated by WashU Medicine physicians, so patients who are screened can feel confident in their results and, if there is an abnormal result, they are connected to the best care possible right from the start.

Breast Cancer Screenings
Siteman’s mammography van brings state-of-the-art 3D mammography to screen eligible patients for breast cancer for their annual screening. As the first of its kind in the country, our mobile unit travels throughout the St. Louis area and beyond.
WashU Medicine breast imaging experts interpret every image and are trained to detect cancer even at its earliest stages. If your results are abnormal, our team will connect you directly to WashU Medicine physicians who specialize in breast cancer for additional diagnostic tests and imaging.
Colorectal Screenings
Siteman’s Health on the Move Community Van distributes initial cancer screening tests like Fecal Immunochemical Tests (FIT test) within eligible community members over the age of 45.
The FIT test is an at-home screening that is a colonoscopy alternative for people without a family history of colon cancer, who are not at high risk, and who have not had a colonoscopy in the last 10 years.
Prostate Cancer Screenings
Community health workers on Siteman’s Health on the Move community van are trained phlebotomists who take blood samples and lead our prostate cancer screenings. Screenings for prostate cancer can begin at age 50 for males at normal risk or at age 40 for those with a family history of prostate cancer.
For the screening, a care team member will take a blood sample and check the level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). The level can indicate if the PSA level is within the normal range or elevated. An elevated test is not the same as a cancer diagnosis, but does need additional care. Our team will connect you directly to a WashU Medicine physician for follow up tests.

Early detection saves lives. Many cancers can be treated more successfully when found early, often before symptoms appear. We understand transportation challenges, busy schedules, limited access to healthcare facilities, and financial concerns can prevent individuals from getting screened.

Your Disease Risk® is an educational tool that was developed for Siteman Cancer Center at BJC Healthcare and WashU Medicine by a diverse group of researchers, clinicians, programmers and health communication experts to create a snapshot of your risk for cancer and other major diseases. Once you receive a estimate, the tool includes tips on ways you can lower your risk.
